Hart Memorial Primary School, Portadown, Craigavon Co Armagh

Eco Schools

Hart Memorial is fully committed to ecological awareness and action across the whole school.

We are delighted to have Mrs Woods developing and furthering our school as an 'Eco School.'

Waste

We have recently overhauled our waste processes and now have three distinct bins in each classroom and each playground.  These are general waste, dry recyclable waste and food waste.  The children have been taught to separate their waste accordingly and each class has two Eco Warriors to ensure this is done and to empty the food waste each day into a larger bin for River Ridge to collect.

Bird Feeders

The children have enjoyed feeding the birds and watching the many birds who come to feed.  Recently, they made their own bird feeders both from natural materials (spruce cones) and recycled (margarine tubs) materials.  We feed our birds sunflower seeds, ordinary seeds, nyger seeds and suet in order for them to keep warm and ready for the breeding season.
