We planted a sunflower each as part of our Growth topic in World Around Us. We then wrote instructions for what we did.

We also planted cress and potatoes.

We carried out a floating and sinking experiment for Science Week. We had to predict if the items would float or sink before testing them. There were a few surprising results!

We also took part in a live lesson involving life cycles of certain animals and creatures.

We took our art lesson outside today. The children made an observational drawing of a Potato plant, linked to our Famine topic.

The children had great fun being scientists last week. Our WAU topic is ‘The Senses’ so we carried out smell and taste tests on crisps. We tallied our results and drew bar charts based on these. The children were amazed at how much their sense of taste was enhanced by their sense of smell.

Some pieces of Literacy work were submitted by P4S in the recent Portadown Rotary Club competition. The theme was ‘Environment’ and we entered poems based on the weather and some stories based on a water droplet’s trip through the water cycle. We were delighted to learn that Rosie’s story was awarded first place and Tyler’s poem came second. Rosie’s story now goes forward to the next stage of the competition.

Our P1TE boys and girls enjoyed a fun filled morning demonstrating their creative talents. They used various media to create a pattern on their vase and then used thick and thin brushes to paint beautiful Spring Daffodils which they had planted in our Autumn Term, Well done boys and girls, super artists!!!
