On Friday 20th October P5D performed an Egyptian class assembly for their parents and all of the KS2 children in school. They were truly fantastic throughout the whole performance! Here are a few photos to show what they did during the assembly.

This week we have been very busy finishing off our fabric collage trees. The children did a brilliant job. We have many budding (😉) crafters in our classroom. The children also took home their Creation Wheels. We used the Izak9 cubes for one of our maths lessons this week. The children worked in groups to make ‘total poles’ with their cubes. This was a fun, interactive and practical Numeracy lesson. Finally, congratulations to our recent Stars if the Week and Mathletics  Certificates winners. winners

What an adventure we had this morning on our walk. We explored lots of new areas in our school grounds that we had not seen before and jumped into lots of muddy puddles!

We used oil pastels to try 5 techniques! We learnt how to draw, blend, layer, do short strokes and long strokes. A busy day, full of fun indoors on a miserable wet Friday.

Thank you so much for all your support for our sponsored welly boot walk. The rain didn’t put us off; the children put their waterproofs on and had a brilliant time. They splashed and jumped in the puddles, talked about signs of Autumn as we walked, explored the forest at the back of the school and loved climbing up the hill and sliding down. When we returned to Nursery, we had lots of lovely treats.

We travelled to the Palace Stables in Armagh to join in the Apple Week celebrations as part of out WAU topic, Trees. The children learnt about the life cycle of the apple tree and the various uses of apples as well as meeting historical characters such as Mr Heaney and Sam the cook. They also enjoyed a crafting session with Sylvia. We finished off our day with a quick trip to the park as a treat for being such well behaved, polite and kind children.

As it is Autumn and there are lots of apples about at this time of year, we have been thinking all about apples this week. We talked about where apples come from and the difference between apples you might eat as a snack and cooking apples.

Then we conducted a little experiment to see what the apples might taste like cooked and what happens to them.  We tasted our stewed apples on biscuits and a little cream.

We also looked at the artist Paul Czeanne, famous for painting pictures of apples. We completed our beautiful art work which will be on display in our classroom for all to see.

This week children planted the conkers and acorns that they had gathered on our nature walk. We hope to have little saplings to bring home in the spring time. We also had a fun football coaching session and enjoyed our fitness lesson with Coach Steve.

Within World Around Us lessons we have been looking at our bodies. This week we have focused on ‘Our 5 Senses’ and how we use these to understand the world around us. Today we enjoyed a carousel of senses stations. We explored our sense of taste by sampling sweet flavours (jam/honey sandwiches) and sour/bitter flavours such as lemon/lime. At our hearing station we had the opportunity to play musical instruments loud/soft and fast/slow. At our smelling station we explored a variety of scents such as perfume, vinegar, peppermint, lemon juice, cinnamon and mixed herbs. At our touch station we felt a variety of materials that varied in texture and at our sight station the children wore blindfolds and played ‘find the snowball’. This gave children a realisation of how we might have to rely on our other senses at certain times and gave an appreciation of how valuable our sight is.
