In P7T, we have been discussing the importance of a growth mindset where knock-backs do not shift our attitude and effort, but instead give us an opportunity to think again and act differently. The words in white represent sayings from a closed mindset which can be very negative. Things such as “I give up” or “This is too hard”. We have been discussing different approaches which are more positive in nature. The children came up with some great sayings like: “I’ll try this!” or “I know that I can do it”. Being more positive instead of negative will have a tremendous knock on effect on the children’s self-esteem and mindset for the day ahead.
Discuss with your pupils about the importance of a growth mindset.
Change your words, change your mindset!

Building upon the success of last year's Robert Hart documentary, P7 pupils are delving deeper into the man, from whom our school is named after. Sir Robert Hart led a colourful life, and played a huge part in the development of China as a major player on the world stage. In the 1800's, Hart found his way to China from a young age, learning the Chinese language within three years and becoming Inspector-General of China's Imperial Maritime Custom Service. Pupils, with the aid of teachers, the Craigavon Historical Society and CRAIC NI, have had a real taste of authentic Chinese language, dress, food and culture. As the pictures show, pupils have enjoyed the proactive learning experiences.
