Although it has been a short month we have enjoyed lots of activities relating to fairy tales and nursery rhymes. We also have been learning about all the colours of the rainbow and enjoyed playing with Noah’s Ark, reading the story and learning the song. In the lead up to our Easter break we have been having fun doing some Easter activities as we decorated eggs and enjoyed an Easter egg hunt!

We were very busy today baking chocolate nests in preparation for Easter.

There was lots of discussion and learning involved as we worked out how to get the hard chocolate to coat the Rice Krispies. We also had a little taste test with the Rice Krispies before we started and enjoyed listening to the crunchy noise they made.

As we set about making our buns we started by counting the chocolate cubes as we broke them up. Once our chocolate was melted we added Rice Krispies, chose our bun cases and filled them before decorating with a egg and little chick.

What an exciting week we have had!

After setting up our incubator and adding 7 fertilised eggs we waited patiently and counted the 21 days down.  We finally crossed out our last day on Wednesday and watched the hatching commence. While we waited, we set up our cage and made a bed for the new arrivals. Of course they were going to need food and water so we had lots of helpers getting things ready!

On Wednesday afternoon it all began with lots of cheeping coming from inside the eggs and then we noticed a tiny little crack in the shell. Soon we could see a pointy beak poking out and the egg was wiggling a lot as the chick tried to get out. Eventually we were delighted to see a little wet and very tired chick. Setting it gently under the heat lamp to dry into a fluffy, yellow and very noisy chick, we watched and waited for its brothers and sisters to hatch... we didn’t have to wait too long🐥🐥🐥

On Friday we asked the children to come up with some names for the chicks. There were lots of great suggestions but after a lot of deliberation the chicks were finally named Fluffy, Chirpy and Sweetie.
