We are taking part in the BIG BATTERY HUNT. Please put all used batteries in one of our boxes and return to school on or before the 7th June. If you need more than one box, just ask. The more batteries we collect for recycling the better chance we have of winning some brilliant prizes.

Batteries are made from a variety of chemicals to power their reactions. Some of these chemicals, such as nickel and cadmium, are extremely toxic, and can cause damage to humans and the environment. In particular, they can cause soil and water pollution and endanger wildlife.

Pat from NI Water spoke to the ECO Committee about single use plastic, and why it is important we reduce the amount we use. Pat told us that only 50% of single use plastic bottles get recycled, and the rest either end up in landfill or in the worlds oceans. He also explained the danger it has to sea life. NI Water has given us a reusable water bottle for every child in the school. These will be given out after Christmas. Everyone will be able to refill their water bottles in school.
