On Sunday 19th October, we held a special service of Thanksgiving and Celebration in St Columba's Church of Ireland. The service was to give thanks for 90 years of Hart Memorial Primary School and to celebrate these wonderful years.
The event was attended by over 300 - current families, past families, past pupils, and former and current staff. It was a fantastic night which was marked by renewed friendships and sound of joy and laughter.
We delighted to welcome our local MP, Mrs Carla Lockhart and the Lord Mayor, Mr Stephen Moutray.
we also enjoyed catching up with familiar, past faces!
Thanks to Canon Adair for talking to us about sowing good seed and for the use of the church.

Good Relations Week has been running all of this week and we have been marking it in different ways at Hart Memorial. The P5 pupils from Hart Memorial PS and Presentation PS walked to Portadown Peoples' Park with their teachers, classroom assistants and parents on Tuesday 14th October to celebrate. After enjoying eating their snack together, they got to work using the litter pickers and bags they brought with them to the park. It was a very busy morning walking around in groups to collect any litter they could see. Many thanks to Pamela from ABC council for giving both schools new litter pickers and bags to collect the rubbish in.
The pupils in P5D have also thoroughly enjoyed designing and making posters for the Good Relations Week Poster competition. They have been displayed in school for everyone to see.
On Wednesday, we were also delighted to receive our Schools of Sanctuary award as part of Good Relations Week - a good week all round!

Every child has the right to an education.  Primary education should be free.  Secondary and higher education should be available to every child.  Children should be encouraged to go to school to the highest level possible.  Discipline in schools should respect children’s rights and never use violence.

Today, Thursday 2nd October 2025, marks the 90th anniversary, to the day, of Sir Robert Hart Memorial Primary School opening its doors to pupils in Portadown.  As a school, we are extremely proud of the impact which the Hart has had on so many throughout its 90 years, and the education which has been afforded to so many in our locality.

Historically, the Hart was an amalgamation of several local schools: Edgarstown No. 1 Academy (a Church of Ireland school in Montague Street), Edgarstown 2 (a Methodist school), Academy school (a Presbyterian School in Church Street), and the senior pupils of Park Road School (a Church of Ireland school). Forwarding on 90 years, the school continues to go from strength to strength with an enrolment of 450 pupils strong!

As a staff, it is our vision that the Hart continues to live out the characteristics attributed to the man who we are named after: a man who was known as ambitious, enthusiastic and exceptionally talented.  We are very proud of our school, our pupils are very proud, and we know that so many of you in our community are very proud!

Happy birthday, Sir Robert Hart Memorial!  Here’s to the next 90 years!
