In November, Mrs Allen taught the children how to make beautiful Christmas wreaths. She brought all the foliage plus slices of real orange slow dried in her oven. She also provided cones and ribbons. We are so grateful to her for her work and wonderful teaching ability.

While in P6C last year, the present P7MM pupils cleared the vegetable plots and planted potatoes.  Earlier this term, they dug up a healthy crop of potatoes which were shared out amongst those who wanted them.  One parent very kindly sent back a photograph of the potatoes cooked and ready to be eaten for tea!

Mrs Woods received eighty-three requests from children who wanted to be on the Eco Committee this year. Due to this overwhelming interest, the number of members was increased from eight to sixteen.  Names were chosen randomly from a hat. Eco Committee members are taken from the P4, P5, P6 and P7 classes (two from each class).

The Chairperson of the Eco Committee, Ana-Maria Sirdea, recently interviewed Mr Alan McDowell, Director of Empower Garden Centre and General Manager and Trustee of Portadown Wellness Centre.

Mr McDowell is working with the Eco Committee to restore and improve the pond area at the front of the school and the front garden next to the road.  The Eco Committee hope to make this a butterfly garden where children can have outdoor learning and where parents and carers can sit and talk to each other while waiting for their children at the end of school.

This week it is our turn to litter pick around the school grounds so we headed out this afternoon. It was fun to use the litter picking sticks so the children were actually disappointed to find such a small amount of rubbish in our school grounds, just the odd tissue and bit of plastic. Well done Hart Memorial pupils for keeping our school grounds so clean and tidy.
