Today we experimented with using our senses at 5 different stations set up around our classroom. We used our sense of taste to find out if food was sweet, bitter or sour. We used our sense of smell to guess a selection of scents such as vanilla, lemon, peppermint etc. We used our sense of touch to explore whether objects were smooth, rough, hard, soft, cold etc. We used our sense of hearing to explore making loud/soft and fast/slow music with our instruments. Finally, at our sight station, we played a game of find the snowballs while blindfolded, to help us appreciate how much we rely on our sight. The boys and girls had great fun and demonstrated their knowledge at the end of our lesson, within our class discussion.
We celebrated by making porridge & lots of the children tasted some. Others even asked for more!! 😋☺️
Children in other countries do not have food so we brought in £1 each to sponsor a child.
The children showed empathy for other children, just like them on planet earth.
It is hard to believe that the new academic year is just around the corner! I hope that everyone has had a super, restful break, and is ready to begin a new school year.
In preparation for coming back, please be reminded of some arrangements for the new school year.
Back to School
Pupils from P2-7 return to school on Wednesday 28th August; they will finish on this day at 12noon. This will be the case for Thursday 29th August and Friday 30th August. Pupils should have a healthy snack with them on these days. There will be no school dinners on these days.
Full school days, with school dinners, will begin on Monday 2nd September. Arrangements for Nursery and Primary 1 children are different and have been shared separately – please contact the class teacher if you are unsure of anything.
Meet the Teacher
This year, we are changing the format of our ‘meet the teacher event.’ On Thursday 29th August, parents are invited into school from 12:30pm to 2:30pm to go and meet their child/ren’s new teacher. Teachers will be in their rooms, with a handout regarding key information about their class, and parents are welcome to visit and collect this/meet with the teacher. This will be an informal, drop-in event and parents are welcome to arrive at any time.
