We were so fortunate to have representatives from the Confucius Institute with us today as part of World around Us topic. They showcased Chinese dance and music with the traditional gû zhēng instrument. We then went back to the classroom to take part in a workshop where we made Chinese dragons and created some amazing artwork involving paint blowing and Ming vases.

P4 enjoyed a fantastic and very informative visit from Hannah from the WW2 Museum in Belfast. It was great to hear more about life in Northern Ireland during 1939-1945 and to look at some of the objects that she brought with her.

We had a look outside at the trees around our school and how the weather feels when it is Winter. We noticed that the leaves had fallen off the trees so that the branches were bare.  The next day we made watched Mrs Agnew tear some strips of black paper to make the different sizes of the trunk, branches and twigs.  Once we glued these on, we added some finger print snow during play.

P5D pupils have worked extremely hard this half term to complete an iMovie in groups about saving electricity in both their homes and at school. Here are two of the finished masterpieces. Congratulations to all the boys and girls for working on their ICT task and creating such informative and interesting films - one of them has a special guest featuring in the film! Can you spot who he is?

We travelled to Presentation PS this week to meet us with our friends once again. We started with ‘Find a Friend Bingo’ before heading to the classroom to learn about the experiences of Evacuees in WW2.  The children ‘packed’ their suitcases, made Evacuee figures and listened to music from the Glenn Millar Band. We finished off with a parachute game. We have enjoyed our Shared Education sessions this term and look forward to meeting up with our new friends again in Term 3.

We travelled to the Palace Stables in Armagh to learn more about life during World War 2. Many of the children dressed as Evacuees and this added to their enjoyment. We visited Mr Heaney in his kitchen. He was impressed that so many of the children had remembered their gas masks! He took us to the Anderson shelter and we all sang Run Rabbit Run. Next we met the GI captain who instructed us in marching and drilling. Some of us need a lot of practice!! He also taught us how to work out a coded message. Finally we went to the school room to make our Identity Cards and Evacuee labels. The children thoroughly enjoyed the trip.
