Today P7s had some very special visitors from the Confucius Society in the University of Ulster. Today is Chinese New Year, which the the children have been learning about as part of our Robert Hart and China.
We learned about the origins of Chinese New Year; the monster Nian. Some of the children got to dress up in a dragon costume and a panda costume. We learned how to say Hello and Happy New Year in Mandarin. We also listened to some beautiful music on traditional Chinese instruments - have a listen to the videos below. Finally, we were given individual mask packs so that each child could decorate their own mask! Everyone really enjoyed the morning!
We brought in our favourite teddy bears to school. We had so much fun learning about each teddy and telling our friends all about them.
Mrs Heare brought in her very old teddy called Donald who is 42 years old. See if you can spot him in the pictures!!!
These marvellous mathematicians have done it again for another month with earning great awards when completing Mathletics points.
We have bronze and silver awards every month and these P3 children keep impressing me with their incredible results!!
Congratulations everyone 👏👏👏⭐️⭐️⭐️
P4S recently travelled to the Palace Stables in Armagh for an educational trip to extend their knowledge of WW2, our present World Around Us topic. Some of the boys and girls dressed up as evacuees and they really did look like children from the 1940s. Firstly we made identity cards (to ensure there were no spies in our party 😉)and evacuee labels. Then we learnt more about food rationing. After that, we visited Mr Heaney in his war time kitchen. When the siren went off, he and Air Raid Warden, Cole, led us to the Anderson shelter. Finally we met Sergeant Willis, an American GI, who taught us how to drill and send coded messages. The children thoroughly enjoyed this experience of war time life.
Today we enjoyed a fantastic trip to the Palace Stables in Armagh. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about World War Two. We even made our own identification cards and went down into an Air Raid shelter! Well done to everyone who dressed up today as an evacuee. You all looked the part!
P2LM brought their teddies to school today, we could all describe our teddies and had a teddy bears picnic! 🧸
Thanks to all of you who donated to this charity before Christmas. On Friday 17th December we all wore our Christmas jumpers or festive outfits.
We raised a phenomenal £735.40 so many thanks. The cheque was handed over this morning to Rebecca who came into school to represent this very worthy charity.
P7T are learning about China and the influence that Robert Hart made. Today, we drew and designed our own Chinese Ming Dynesty Vases. We looked at the many designs and colours, looked at the difference between a real one and a fake one. Pupils enjoyed creating their own and colouring them. They really stood out with the card behind. Well done, P7. 😀
In P5P, we have been using Minecraft Education. It is a unique computer game, but it’s also a superb learning tool, helping the children with enhancing their creativity, problem solving, working together and imagination. It’s also great fun!
