P5DK had great fun trying to work out which conductors changed the brightness of the bulb. First of all they had to understand the difference between an insulator and a conductor. After that, they all learnt how to build a circuit using wires, bulb, bulb holder, batteries and battery holder. Finally, they used a variety of different conductors in the circuit to see if they affected the brightness of the bulb. Here are some photos to see then in action.
Mrs McClelland brought Morgan, Bert and Ted to visit. We wrote some excellent sentences describing them.
Over the last couple of months, P7MM have been learning about the Titanic. We discussed how many, many people lost their lives in the water after the Titanic hit the iceberg and decided to investigate how our body temperature affects our ability to carry out simple tasks such as writing a sentence, building Lego and placing pegs on a peg board by completing these tasks before and after submerging our hands in ice cold water for two minutes. We also tracked our heart rate. We had great fun doing this as you can see from the photos and the results showed us that, apart from the odd anomaly, most of us found it much more difficult to carry out these tasks after having our hands in cold water.
P7T did a fantastic job planning and making some very interesting comics based on the sinking of the Titanic. Great job.
P7T tried something different this afternoon to encourage pupils to fully focus and read effectively in a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Reading is so important to the education of our pupils - the enjoyment of reading alone allows our students to enter a whole new world.
P6 have been enjoying learning to play the different notes on their recorders during music.
P6 have been looking at tessellation in Numeracy this week. They created their own tessellating pattern using a lizard template. They did a fantastic job.
P7T have been learning about a Flight as part of their World Around Us studies. Today, we learned about the concept of hot air rising - how it’s used for Hot Air balloons to fly. Hot air is lighter than cold air and will rise above the cold air. Cold air is denser (heavier) - next time you open up the fridge with bare feet, you’ll notice your feet getting cold because cold air falls to the ground. Today, in class, we made spiral snakes to practically show the effects of hot air rising. As you can see from the pictures, the children had a lot of fun.
In preparation for our trip to Asda we discussed what we could buy for our snack and wrote a shopping list. We also discussed that we would have to bring a purse with some money and a re-useable bag to put our shopping into. When at Asda we enjoyed visiting the meat counter, fish counter, bakery and finding all the items on our list and then scanning them at the till and paying for them. Back in Nursery we enjoyed preparing the fruit and fresh bread for our snack. It was delicious!
As part of our topic we enjoyed a shopping trip to ASDA to buy some groceries for our snack. We made a list before we went and had fun going around the different departments looking for all the things on our list. Before leaving we we took our items to the til where we scanned, paid and packed our groceries before coming back to school.
