Primary Seven’s new World Around Us topic is Flight. One such way of demonstrating the forces that enable a plane to fly is to build and create a paper aeroplane. There are four forces at work when a plane flies, lift, thrust, drag and gravity. As you can see in the video, the thrust that enables forward motion is due to me throwing the plane by my arm. This generates power to enable lift. Once that power dissepitates, drag and eventually gravity takes over and it falls back to the ground. Pupils will be creating their own planes tomorrow. The one with the straightest edges and best thrust will go the furthest. A very practical way to show these forces at work. The kids were appreciative of the videoing experience.
Well done to all below who earned their latest bronze certificate in mathletics.
P7 spent their Friday performing poetry in the classroom. We discussed about the importance of tone, volume, facial expressions and enthusiasm. I was delighted with the response. The class did really well.
Karen from the RSPB came to visit us in Nursery to support us in our topic of Winter. Over the past week we have been busy making bird feeders and bird food which we have hung out to feed the birds when they are struggling to find food. It has been very exciting birdwatching to see which birds visit our Nursery. We saw a robin, a black bird and a chaffinch feeding at our ‘home made’ feeders.
We helped Karen to make a garden mat as she told us a story about what makes a good garden and about the important role birds have to play in our gardens. We can’t wait to see what other birds might visit in the next few weeks!
We had a lovely visit from Karen from the RSPB who told us about lots of different birds who visit our gardens, how we can help them and what food we can put out for them during the winter. We also went outside to see what birds we could spot in our Nursery garden. We were very excited when a little Robin Redbreast flew down to say hello and enjoy the bird food we had made and put out for them.
We really enjoyed listening to stories and joining in singing different songs and rhymes in the library and had fun spending time browsing through lots of different books.
Karen Sheil from RSPB spoke to us on Thursday. She talked to us about recognising birds and explained how we can help birds to survive and make life easier. We went outside to see if we could spot any birds. We were amazed at how many different types we saw - rooks, black-headed gulls, wood pigeons, starlings, magpies and the chaffinch. She was very impressed with the work the Eco committee has done around the school to encourage birds and wildlife. Karen answered so many questions and it was such an interesting talk!
Karen from the RSPB led a discussion around Northern Ireland’s wildlife and the vibrant bird life that we have in this country. We also had the opportunity to go outside and do a spot of birdwatching. Thank you Karen for your time and expertise.
We enjoyed stories, song and rhymes in the library and had lots of fun browsing all the brilliant books that are available to come and read or borrow.
