This morning we enjoyed a visit by Orla from Young Enterprise. During our session, we discussed what makes up our community, other facilities we might like to have in our community and the important people and jobs that add to our community. We also learned how important our taxes are in paying for the services we take for granted such as medical care, education, rubbish collections, leisure centres, etc. We finished off the session by working in groups to design our own communities and what we’d like in them. The children thoroughly enjoyed their morning.
Today the children explored the themes of self esteem and self expression. The boys and girls looked at ways to boost their self esteem and were encouraged to look for the positives in all situations. The children also discussed how to understand their emotions and to express their feelings to others in a healthy and positive way.

We had a wonderful workshop from the Chinese Confucius Society from the University of Ulster. Yuan came into our classroom and demonstrated how to use chopsticks. She then challenged us to use them to eat popcorn! Some of us found it easier than others, but despite that, all the popcorn was eaten!!! We then did some blow painting of flowers and created some beautiful art work. The last activity in our classroom was learning how to spin a Chinese handkerchief - that was lots of fun!
After the workshop in the classroom, we were treated to an amazing display of Chinese Opera and dance in the hall were we learned all about the 'Changing Faces'. We also learned about the story of Nian and the significance of this for Chinese New Year.
