What a fun filled month we have had. There has been lots of discussion about Winter. We have enjoyed learning about freezing and how we must be careful when it’s icy. We have learned how to melt ice more quickly using salt. We had a lovely visit from the staff at Oxford Island who told us all about birds. Through our large scale junk art the children have been developing their team work, communication and creativity. We were so impressed by the house, tree and marble run the children made.

We have spent lots time this term developing our understanding of positional language, using words like in front, behind, on top, under, beside. The children are working well together sharing ideas and learning from each other. Christmas excitement has led to lots of chat and discussion about Christmas presents and how the season makes them feel. The children have enjoyed using musical instruments this terms and learning their Christmas Nativity song. They sang beautifully and you should be so proud of them.

We have been very busy this month both indoors and out. We have been experimenting with water, collecting water from the water butt and using it at the water area and also to water the plants. We have been mixing colours with paint and chalk. Our playground has become very colourful. The addition of the sheds has allowed the children to access the resources they need independently and also return them letting them take ownership of their play. The small loose parts has been very popular indoors with children using their imaginations to create their own stories and pictures.

What a lot of exploring we have done this month! We have been on Autumn walks, collected, raked and sorted leaves. Pine cones and conkers have featured in out play both indoors and out and we have been talking about all the autumn animals. We have been exploring all the different autumn colours and enjoying lots of art activities. We are looking after our Nursery by keeping it tidy and making sure all our resources are tidied away.
