P5D have been learning the names and properties of 3D shapes in Numeracy this week. They completed a variety of different activities in class to help with their knowledge and understanding.
We had Mrs Lee as a guest in our assembly this morning, She talked about a new programme we will be focusing on in school, called TREK.
The T stands for Trust and she reminded us of the importance of trust in all our relationships and in school life.
The boys and girls had a wonderful afternoon using bulbs, switches, wires, batteries, bulb holders and battery holders. They had to use the equipment to build circuits and test to see if the circuits were complete or incomplete. Lots of fun was had trying to get the lightbulbs to light up.
Mrs White and the School Council came to our assembly today, to remind us of the importance of coming to school every day.

This week P5D have been learning how to write instructions in Literacy. They have been reading a variety of instruction texts during guided reading sessions, using this knowledge to write instructions and then following instructions to enjoy making hot chocolate and decorating gingerbread men.
On Wednesday 27th November and Wednesday 4th December P5D have been working with the P5 children from Presentation PS. They spent one day at Hart Memorial and the other day at Presentation PS. The children started each session with ice breaker games, then throughout the day they completed Numeracy, Art, Zumba and ICT tasks together. During the day the children also got to enjoy both break and lunch eating and playing together.
P5D have enjoyed working in groups to create space mobiles. They had to measure a piece of wood, cut using a saw, glue using a hot glue gun and colour the planets. Then they had to arrange them in order.
P5D had lots of visitors to class this week. It started on Monday when Mr Frizzell was asked questions about road safety and parking outside the school. On Tuesday Ciara and Gwen from the PSNI and PCSP talked to the children about road safety, answered questions they had prepared and took the children out to the front of the school to measure the speed vehicles were travelling and looking at how vehicles were parked. On Wednesday the children used the iPads and took part in an Adobe live workshop to create road safety posters. By Thursday it was time to use all the information gathered to write a newspaper report about road safety outside Hart Memorial. Finally, on Friday, the children read a comprehension and answered questions.
