The arrangements relate to dressing up and also a whole-school competition (including Nursery).
Let's use WBD to encourage our children with their reading and its importance!
Our new topic that we will be exploring in Primary 1 over the next few weeks is fairy tales. As part of our World Around Us lesson today, we enjoyed listening to the story of ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’ before accepting the challenge of building the three billy goats a new bridge to cross over the river, safely away from the troll. We studied photos of bridges, talking about the different shapes we could see and the different designs and materials used. We then investigated our own materials on offer and we worked in groups to make a plan of what our bridge might look like and what resources we would use. There was a lot of trial and error involved, and we discovered that folding paper made it stronger and soon realised the importance of using sticky tape correctly!!! Once our bridges were built, we tested them to see if they were strong enough to hold a toy goat. Thankfully, all of our bridges were successful!
We began by researching images of winter trees and we looked at tree diagrams to find out about the different parts of a tree. We talked about the varying length and thickness of tree trunks and branches and worked on reflecting this within our art work. To create a winter scene, we used cotton bud printing to create white snowflakes.
Please see a letter regarding a full day of strike action next Thursday 18th January.
