This morning we had a lovely Sentinus session where we looked at various materials to build some houses.  We then tested the houses to see if we could blow them down by pretending to be the big bad wolf.  Lots of the designs stayed standing and we were very impressed by all of the creations.
We used pegs and lollipop sticks for the stick house, play dough and straws for the straw house and Lego for the brick house.

What do you think of our creations?

We have been learning about 2D shape properties and using our shapes to make fairytale castles. We were reading ‘The Gingerbread Man’ during our literacy lessons this week and have had fun retelling the story through drama and picture sequencing. We finished off our week by decorating gingerbread men.

We have been reading about Jack and the Beanstalk. We learnt about real (not magic) beans and what happens when they are planted in the soil.  We have planted some of our own and hopefully we see them grow over the next couple of weeks.  We will also be completing some lovely Jack and the Beanstalk art work so keep an eye out for that.

Please find arrangements for WBD on Thursday 7th March.

The arrangements relate to dressing up and also a whole-school competition (including Nursery).

Let's use WBD to encourage our children with their reading and its importance!

As part of our new topic - Once Upon a Time, we read the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

We decided to build our own bridges and test if these were strong enough for the goats to cross.
The children loved thinking of different materials to use and working together as a group to create a bridge.
it was then very exciting as we tested these out over our ‘river’ to see if the goat got wet. I can confirm all of our bridges stayed standing! 🎉

We made pancakes today in Primary 1, in anticipation of Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Tuesday) next week during our half-term break. We made a list of ingredients that we would need to make our pancakes and followed a recipe together. Then we cooked our pancakes and enjoyed eating them for our morning snack. The favourite toppings were butter and sugar or jam.

We had a look outside at the trees around our school and how the weather feels when it is Winter. We noticed that the leaves had fallen off the trees so that the branches were bare.  The next day we made watched Mrs Agnew tear some strips of black paper to make the different sizes of the trunk, branches and twigs.  Once we glued these on, we added some finger print snow during play.
