One of the children brought in some special hens eggs from the farm for us to look after. We very carefully put them in an incubator. The incubator keeps the eggs nice and warm and turns them just like Mummy hen as the little chick grows inside.  We have a calendar and are counting down the sleeps until the chicks hatch. It is very exciting and we can’t wait!

We had fun making pancakes. We cracked eggs, added flour and milk, gave it a stir, popped it in the pan and Mrs Handy flipped it and caught it! We then enjoyed them for our snack.

This month we have been learning all about people who help us in our community and their jobs.  We enjoyed taking on the roles of a doctor, nurse and patient in our hospital role play area, learning about the different bones in our body, sorting and recycling materials and lots more!

We have had a busy month having fun exploring, investigating and discovering!

We have discussed a lot about our feelings and continue to develop a greater awareness of ourselves, each other and the natural environment. The children have loved being able to help the birds by putting out seeds and fat balls. They enjoyed watching them, learning to identify all the birds that have visited our Nursery garden and listening to their beautiful songs.

The weather has given us lots of opportunities to learn about freezing and melting. We experimented by making iceboats and ice-skating penguins!

We also investigated a variety of materials, explored clay and we even made our own snow!

We went on a bear hunt, it was a beautiful day! We couldn’t go over it, or under it, so we had to go through long wavy grass, thick oozy mud, a deep cold river, a dark forest and into a narrow gloomy cave, where we found ... a little cuddly bear!!!

This month we have been learning all about homes. We have really enjoyed the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and learning about big, middle-sized and small. We turned our home corner into the Three Bears cottage and have had fun dressing up and re-telling the story.
