May brought minibeast madness to our room. We studied and discussed ladybirds, bumblebees, wasps, spiders, beetles, worms, snails and slugs. We really enjoyed our minibeast hunt and found lots hiding in dark, damp places around our playground. We created some beautiful artwork including snails and their trails and beautiful butterflies. We have also really enjoyed role playing with the dolls in our home corner and realised that there were no dolls left to push in the proms and play with outside so we decided to make some ‘bottle babies’. We collected empty plastic bottles and filled them with water, paint and glitter then glued the tops on and stuck on some eyes. We shook the bottles and were mesmerised by the beautiful patterns the paint made as it swirled around and mixed with the glistening, floating glitter! We have had so much fun playing with them and have been very imaginative in how we have used them in our play! Enjoy looking through the photographs to see all of the fun we have had.
This month we have really enjoyed our topic of fairytales, nursery rhymes and rainbows. We explored colour mixing to make each colour of the rainbow and created beautiful rainbows using playdough, paint and collage materials. We also had a rainbow day when we dressed up in different colours of the rainbow and were able to create a human rainbow. We loved reading lots of different fairytales and especially enjoyed retelling ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and ‘The Billy Goats Gruff’ stories using puppets. When outside we planted beans, after reading Jack and the Beanstalk, and are looking forward to seeing how tall they grow! We also made our own beanstalk using cardboard tubes and very carefully cut out some leaves to stick on. We had lots of fun making nature crowns by collecting leaves, petals, twigs etc.
