This morning we had the fabulous Lynda Haffey, author of The Mindful Sloth, visit our class. She read her story to the class and by the end we were all singing along with the Mindful Sloth. The book is a great story about how the Sloth is happy in himself and content with his life as it is. We all really enjoyed the visit and are looking forward to welcoming Lynda back when she has finished her next book!
We rounded off the half term this morning with a great morning’s fun with Peter from Sentinus. The children worked in groups to create a bridge using paper straws and masking tape. All group’s bridges successfully held one 5 litre bottle of water, and some held the weight of two of these bottles - amazing!!
The children then had to create something using KNEX, which everyone really enjoyed. The creativity was flowing with one group trying to build Big Ben and another group building Barry’s amusements!!
Well done everyone!
Congratulations to our February prefects Eva and Leon.ππ
Well done to Katie - our Healthy Kidz Star.π
Our Good to be Green raffle winner for January was Casey. Excellent!ππ
The whole school took part in Number Day to raise funds for NSPCC. We had a fantastic day in Room 8! We wore clothes with numbers on them and took part in fun Maths activities. We have been learning about Sir Robert Hart in our topic work so we completed artwork using numbers associated with him. The results were amazing!
A big thank-you to all pupils and parents for supporting this worthy cause.
Well done to Peyton, our Healthy Kidz Star of the Week, to Ollie and Taylor for achieving Celebration Certificates for the month of January and to Lily, Sophie and Eva for achieving their target in Accelerated Reader and winning a prize. Congratulations to you allπππππππππ
Today P7s had some very special visitors from the Confucius Society in the University of Ulster. Today is Chinese New Year, which the the children have been learning about as part of our Robert Hart and China.
We learned about the origins of Chinese New Year; the monster Nian. Some of the children got to dress up in a dragon costume and a panda costume. We learned how to say Hello and Happy New Year in Mandarin. We also listened to some beautiful music on traditional Chinese instruments - have a listen to the videos below. Finally, we were given individual mask packs so that each child could decorate their own mask! Everyone really enjoyed the morning!
Thanks to all of you who donated to this charity before Christmas. On Friday 17th December we all wore our Christmas jumpers or festive outfits.
We raised a phenomenal £735.40 so many thanks. The cheque was handed over this morning to Rebecca who came into school to represent this very worthy charity.
Congratulations to Hayley on achieving the HK Star certificate for excellent participation and teamwork.
P7MM made a model lung to finish off their Healthy Humans topics. The model worked exactly like our lungs work!
