As part of the UICT task this term, P5DK have been learning how to use Scratch. They have learnt how to search for Egyptian images and import them into Scratch. In the next few weeks they will be learning how to get the characters to move and speak.
During art this term P5DK made Canopic Jars using clay. They had to make a lid and a pot using drawings of real life Canopic Jars. After 2 weeks the children were able to paint the jars using a variety of paints. Here are some photos to show you what they did.
Most after school activities finish today, Friday 29 March 2019. If a club or a booster programme has additional sessions next week or the one after, you will have been informed by the leader in writing.
The term 3 after school activities timetable will be out straight after the Easter holidays, with clubs recommencing on Wednesday 8 May 2019.
P5DK have had a practical afternoon learning about different types of electrical circuits. They have investigated using bulbs, wires, bulb holders, batteries and battery holders. Have a look at some of the photographs to see the complete and incomplete circuits they managed to build. This work in linked to the WAU topic this term, Energy Sources.
P5DK took part in their Shared Education project during November. The project initially looked at the similarities and differences that exist between themselves and the P5 children from Presentation PS. They then completed a series of lessons looking at different places of worship which included; St. Columba's COI, St Patrick's RC and a Jewish Synagogue. P5DK have been learning how to complete a Numeracy activity on the SEESAW App. They were learning how to tell the time and instead of doing a written activity in their school book, Mrs Davison asked them to complete a task using the I pads. This week P5DK have been thinking about the different ways they and others can stay safe on the roads.
Here are some photos to show the fantastic Healthy Kidz programme that we have running this year in school. P5DK have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the lessons so far this year. Steve is a great instructor whom the children all look up to and learn so much from him each week.
On Tuesday 16th October P5DK travelled to the Ulster Museum in Belfast to take part in an Egyptian workshop and visit Dippy the Dinosaur. The children had a fantastic time getting to see a variety of different Egyptian artefacts and see the Egyptian Mummy 'Takabuti'. It was also very exciting to see the visitor the museum had on show - 'Dippy' the dinosaur. Here are some photographs to show what a great day they had.
