This week we have been very busy finishing off our fabric collage trees. The children did a brilliant job. We have many budding (😉) crafters in our classroom. The children also took home their Creation Wheels. We used the Izak9 cubes for one of our maths lessons this week. The children worked in groups to make ‘total poles’ with their cubes. This was a fun, interactive and practical Numeracy lesson. Finally, congratulations to our recent Stars if the Week and Mathletics  Certificates winners. winners

We travelled to the Palace Stables in Armagh to join in the Apple Week celebrations as part of out WAU topic, Trees. The children learnt about the life cycle of the apple tree and the various uses of apples as well as meeting historical characters such as Mr Heaney and Sam the cook. They also enjoyed a crafting session with Sylvia. We finished off our day with a quick trip to the park as a treat for being such well behaved, polite and kind children.

We had a visit this morning from Michelle who came from Portadown town library.
Michelle told the children all about the library facilities. She emphasised that there is a lot more going on in the library apart from borrowing books.

Michelle shared a book with the children and encouraged them to visit the library & to join for free to make full use of the activities on offer. e.g. Lego & craft club

Our drama session was a ‘Hot Seating’ activity where the children took on the roles of characters from the Rumplestiltskin fairy tale. They had to answer questions from their classmates, some of which were quite challenging. We also had a really interesting visit from the Dogs’ Trust. Finally, congratulations to our September certificate winners, Danny and Willow and to Cullen, our Healthy Kidz Star of the Week.

As part of our WAU topic work (Trees) we recently walked over to Corcrain to have a look at the trees and collect various natural materials. The children thoroughly enjoyed spotting the signs of autumn and finding seeds, multicoloured leaves, etc. We brought our bags of materials back to school where we used them to make ‘mandalas’ which we then photographed for our display. As you can see from the pictures, the children’s art work was fabulous.

On Friday we used digit cards and the mathematical symbols ‘+’ and ‘=‘ to make numbers. We all enjoyed working with our partners. Some clever children manipulated the ‘+’  to make it ‘X’ and were able to make big numbers. Well done!
