Ben visited our classroom this morning for a Nuture 5 lesson. He based the activities around our WAU topic for this term, The Romans. We had great fun playing Sword, Shield, March (Roman version of rock, paper, scissors) and learning yoga poses such as colosseum and statue. We also learnt some facial massage techniques. The children were very relaxed by the end of the session as is obvious from the pictures.
We enjoyed a short outing to Portadown library this week. The children learnt all about the library and what it has to offer, including craft classes and a Lego Club!!! We learnt how to locate fiction and non fiction books and were taught how to use the scanners. We had an interesting morning.
This morning P4S had a lovely surprise when coach Steve from Healthy Kidz called into our classroom with 2 special Killer K prizes. Many congratulations to Christopher who was top of our class in Killer K and Ellie-Mae who was most improved pupil in P4S. Well done to these two and also to all members of P4S who run the Killer K every Friday.
P4S have been putting any food scraps into the class chicken bin each day. Mrs Stockdale takes the contents home and gives them to her chickens. This means the food waste doesn’t go into landfill, but is recycled into delicious eggs. The children each took a free range egg home for Easter.
P4S planted trees back in the autumn. Today we went to check to see if any had started to sprout. There was great excitement when we examined our pots and noticed that roots and some shoots have appeared. We planted trees because they are so important in taking in carbon dioxide from the air and giving us oxygen to breathe.
Today we used a tuning fork to see sound vibrations. When the fork was vibrating, we heard a lovely sweet note. When the vibrations stopped, so did the noise. We then ‘saw’ the sound by making water jump using the vibrations. Great fun was had by all.
The children had great fun being scientists last week. Our WAU topic is ‘The Senses’ so we carried out smell and taste tests on crisps. We tallied our results and drew bar charts based on these. The children were amazed at how much their sense of taste was enhanced by their sense of smell.
