P4S travelled to Portadown Town Hall this morning to take part in the Choral Speaking class at the festival. They recited ‘Pirate Pete’ and ‘Daddy Fell into the Pond’. The children had worked really hard to learn these two poems and say them very expressively, so they were delighted to be awarded 3rd place. They each received a lovely bronze medal for their hard work.
Four brave and talented boys from P4 took part in Portadown Festival this morning. They recited a poem entitled “About Knees”. We were delighted to learn that Henley was awarded first place, JJ and Eli came third and Freddie was highly commended. Well done boys!!
Congratulations to our 4 talented and brave girls, Mila, Freya, Kourtney and Laura, who took part in the festival today, reciting their poem “Homework”. We were delighted to hear that they were placed third and highly commended. We are sooooo proud of them.
Today P4 travelled to Armagh Museum to finish off our World War 2 topic. Once again many of the children dressed as evacuees and the museum staff were most impressed with their costumes. First we studied some WW2 artifacts. I think our favourite was the gas alarm rattle. It was very noisy!! Then Sarah from the museum dressed George and Jacob up as ARP (air raid precaution) wardens. She also chose Lilly to pack her evacuee suitcase. Finally, we all made our own gas masks. The children really enjoyed their trip and it was a great finish to our topic.
Well done to Nikas who was our Healthy Kidz Star of the Week and to Jenson, who celebrated his birthday in style by winning the GTBG January raffle prize.
Today we travelled to the Palace Stables to learn more about WW2. Many of the children dressed as evacuees and they really looked the part. One even had her teddy in her bag! We met Mr Heaney, the Evacuation Officer, who was very cross with Mrs Stockdale because the children forgot their gas masks!!! After that, Colonel Shepherd, an American GI, taught us how to drill with guns (wooden ones😉) and how to decipher codes. We really had a great day and a really good educational experience.
We welcomed our friends from Presentation again this week for our third, and sadly, last Shared Education lesson this week. Continuing with our theme of WW2, our topic was ‘Evacuation’ and the children learnt about why and how children were evacuated, their thoughts and feeling about this and how their lives changed. They wrote fabulous acrostic poems and finished off by making evacuee figures to take home. The children thoroughly enjoyed this lesson and are looking forward to meeting up with their new friends again, hopefully in the not too distant future.
Congratulations to Jacob, Freya, Ruth, Kourtney and Matas who were awarded 100% attendance certificates for Term 1. What an achievement!!
We welcomed our friends from a Presentation for our second Shared Education lesson. This week we learnt about air raids and the Belfast Blitz. We also constructed our own Anderson Shelters. We worked together really well and had lots of fun.
This morning we welcomed our friends from Presentation PS for our first Shared Education day. Our lessons will be based on our WAU topic WW2. After playing some ‘Getting to know you’ games, we discussed and shared what we already know and what we’d like to learn about WW2. Then we did some research to complete a timeline. We finished off with story time and some singing. We all had a great day.
