lots of the children dressed up as their favourite book characters for World Book Day. We had everyone from Harry Potter casting spells, Mary Poppins singing, George and his Marvellous Medicine to The Queen ofHearts treating to chop off our Heads! We had a fun day.
We made pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. The children had great fun measuring out and mixing the ingredients, including free range eggs from Lenny’s girls at Lisnabunny. They then enjoyed eating their delicious pancakes.
On Tuesday P4S pupils took part in the Portadown Speech Festival. The girls performed their poem, Blame, and we’re delighted to be awarded first prize, two second prizes and two fourths. The boys’ poem was The Witches and they came first and second. In addition Sophie was awarded most promising girl of 2022. The whole class performed their choral piece, Pirate Pete, for the adjudicator. They excelled themselves and were awarded a cup for their efforts.
Today our Literacy lesson involved heading outdoors on an alphabetical noun hunt. Some teams even spotted lions, giraffes, zebras, caterpillars and worms. We headed back into the classroom to add adjectives to our nouns. We had a fun morning.
Today our Literacy/Art lesson took place in the ICT suite. The children drew monsters and then described them and their homes using lots of interesting adjectives. This was a fun learning experience for all.
Today James from Sentinus visited our classroom to help us make Anderson Shelters. The children had to roll sheets of paper into tight tubes to make the main structure. They then added a cardboard cover which they decorated to resemble the grass and food which would have covered real thing. James dropped weights on his shelter to show us how strong it was. The children were amazed at its sturdiness considering it was made from just paper and cardboard. Today's lesson was a fun and interesting way to increase our knowledge of our WAU topic, WW2.
Today was NSPCC Number Day and P4S had fun measuring themselves with rulers, metre sticks and measuring tapes. They collected the data into a table and then investigated to see if the tallest child had the biggest hands and feet. The children also dressed up in Number themed clothes which ranged from sports tops and self-decorated t-shirts to an evacuee costume complete with evacuee label which had lots of numbers on it. We had a great day.
P4S recently travelled to the Palace Stables in Armagh for an educational trip to extend their knowledge of WW2, our present World Around Us topic. Some of the boys and girls dressed up as evacuees and they really did look like children from the 1940s. Firstly we made identity cards (to ensure there were no spies in our party 😉)and evacuee labels. Then we learnt more about food rationing. After that, we visited Mr Heaney in his war time kitchen. When the siren went off, he and Air Raid Warden, Cole, led us to the Anderson shelter. Finally we met Sergeant Willis, an American GI, who taught us how to drill and send coded messages. The children thoroughly enjoyed this experience of war time life.
